A range of 3D scanning technologies is used to capture millions of points defining the geometric features of an object. The raw scanning data is referred to as a “Point Cloud”, which can be used for taking measurements. This point cloud serves as a guide for quality control or for creating a CAD model.
Mesh Model Creation: Unless the project requires creating a model directly from the point cloud, the next step is to generate the mesh model.
CAD Model Creation: The mesh or point cloud is used as a guide to create the CAD model.
Applications:
Creating a 3D model of a physical part with missing documentation
Extracting 2D / 3D documentation
Maintaining a digital 3D record of your own products
Performing deformation analysis on worn parts
Analyzing the functionality of a product
Examining and comparing real geometry with the CAD model
